That thing we do…
This has been lolling in my head for a while but space, time, and will hasn’t afforded transition from thought to action.
I was going to suggest how funny it is, but would rather call it
stupid instead. Imagine suffering from a congenital disease that got
treated but with qualified advice to stay off its triggers but by dint
of whats not readily defined, there just happens to be occassional
destructive tendencies of activating or inculcating in this triggers.
The stupidity then becomes manifest with the next action of rather
running away or staying put from the doctor or physician or
prescriptions necessary for healing.
The above seems the perfect example of the actions i have seen
replayed over time as per our walk with the Lord. For most, its a sin or
misdemeanour they find themselves in despite repeated vows to never
engage in same. For the rest of this sizable group of real beings, its
what happens when things refuse to play out as we will have it. It could
range from Calculus induced headache or another academic imbroglio, to a
business going downhill that will not just break through to a spouse
that won’t just tow the path of peace and progress. Whatever it is; its
usually a function of an incapability, limitation, or weakness.
While its natural to feel this things and experience this strains,
what do we do. Often than not, we loose our groove. We find it hard to
open the bible for our quiet time. We find it hard to offer a prayer of
thanks to God for all His other innumerable blessings. Some of us even
go the extent of being shorn of the deisre to fellowship with others or
attend church service. The time to run to the source – the Limitless one
in whom our help is sure is then turned otherwise to a time of solitude
and self destructive pull-back or draw-back from the redemption and
healing we so dearly seek.
I do not come to offer pedagogies or philosophical teachings here. I
have only come to charge myself as with any other being that will read
this someday that NOTHING should ever be strog enough to take us away
from our arsenal. God is the only sure help we have. We have got to
wisen up to the level of those young Israelites – Daniel, Shedrack,
Menshack and Abednego who threw it all at God in the face of the
prospect of being roasted alive and later on being meal to hungry lions,
even to the extent of agreeing to loose to God, if He chooses to not
save them, rather than save themselves by bowing to earthly gods.
I can be forgiven to assume non of our situations is as dire as that
of those young men. But what are those earthly gods we bow to by running
away from God or refusing to commune with Him. What sin, loss, lack,
trouble, crisis or challenge can be strong enough to yank our thoughts
from God’s capability while instead focusing on our own handicaped and
incapacitated beings? Wouldnt it be wise to rather hold on to what He is
capable of making of our situations instead of dammning ourselves to
the throes of guilt, self-pity and hopelessness.
The charge to us this day is therefore to turn it all to God and
allow Him do as He wills and can cos by the way, how many of us can
really piece anything together with our worries? Shouldn’t we rather
stick with the one that has the medications for our ailings instead of
running away to our detriments and subsequent destruction.
Afterall, its easier.
